Andrew Meade is Minister of Music at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pottstown, PA. He is originally from Canada where he grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His father was a Baptist pastor and his earliest musical training came from his mother who was pianist, organist, choir director, and soloist at several churches. During middle school and high school musical pursuits took a very distant second place to athletic endeavours, but serious interest in music was rekindled following graduation when he travelled with a Christian ministry team that sang at churches, schools, camps, and prisons. Andrew completed a Bachelor of Music degree from Dalhousie University (Halifax) where he studied piano, and a Master of Music degree from Westminster Choir College (Princeton) where he studied organ and choral conducting. During his bachelor’s degree he served as music director at Sheffield Baptist Church, as well as organ scholar and then sub-organist at the University of King’s College Chapel. In addition to his work as a church musician, he also had a private studio in Halifax where he taught piano and music theory. While completing his graduate studies he sang with the Westminster Symphonic Choir and conductor Dr. Joe Miller as they performed great choral-orchestral works with some of the finest orchestras and conductors in the world. It was also his privilege to serve as the ensemble’s tenor section leader as well as be accompanist for a recital performance of Beethoven’s Mass in C. Experience in chamber choir music came as a member of the 24-voice Westminster Kantorei under the direction of Dr. Andrew Megill. Prior to coming toEmmanuel, Andrew worked as organist and choirmaster at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chester, PA. When he is not on the bench of Emmanuel’s wonderful 52-stop Schantz organ, Andrew enjoys tennis, basketball, hiking, and reading. Andrew will be leading our Chancel Choir, Children's Choir, and Contemporary Worship service from both the organ and piano/keyboard. As he settles in, he'll be working to build up the choirs, re-form the Contemporary Music group, and bring new elements into our musical ministry. Andrew will also be accepting students for piano and organ.
